FAQ – Summer School Irsrael / Germany 2023

When and where does the Summer School take place?
The Summer School will occur from August 18th to September 15th, 2023. It begins in Israel (August 18th - September 1st, 2023) and continues in Germany (September 1st - September 15th, 2023). The panels will be held in Giessen, where participants will also be accommodated.

How will the travel to and from Israel be organized?
The flight to Israel will be from Frankfurt on August 18th, 2023, and the return flight to Frankfurt will be on September 1st, 2023.

Who organizes accommodations, transfers, and other logistics during the Summer School?
A dedicated team will handle accommodations, transfers, and other logistical aspects of the program. If you have any questions, feel free to contact the team at any time.

What excursions are planned during the Summer School?
Four excursions are planned: two in Israel and two in Germany. In Germany, there will be trips with one to two overnight stays in Bonn and Berlin, as well as day trips to places like Frankfurt. Specific excursions in Israel will be announced soon.

What does the scholarship include?
The scholarship covers traveling expenses to Germany/Israel and back, study trips at the destination, accommodation, and course materials during the summer school.

Who can apply for the Summer School?
The registration process is open to students of law, history, or related disciplines enrolled at a German university. Registration processes for Colombian or Israeli universities will occur later.

What is the deadline for registration?
Registration will be open until June 10th, 2023.

How do I apply for the Summer School?
To apply, complete the application form available on the website, and submit the required documents, such as CV, a letter of motivation, English proficiency certificate, and official transcripts of records.

What type of English proficiency certificate is accepted?
A certificate proving your participation in an English language course or a legal English course is sufficient. Official certificates such as TOEFL or IELTS are not required.

Will I receive a Transcript of Records (ToR)?
Yes, a ToR will be sent to the email address provided during the application process. If your university requires a ToR to be sent directly, please provide the relevant mailing address.

Do I need a student visa to participate in the Summer School?
A student visa for the Federal Republic of Germany is not required for Summer School 2023. For visa requirements related to entering Israel, please consult the nearest Israeli Consular Representation and contact the managing coordinator for support.

What is the disclaimer and liability information?
The International Summer School on Post-Holocaust Remedies 2023, its leading organizers, staff, lecturers, and teachers are not accountable for any damage to personal property or injuries suffered by participants during the program, except for willful intent or gross negligence.

What is considered misbehavior, and what are the consequences?
Misbehavior includes attacks and insults on participants, staff, or third persons, drug abuse, and excessive alcohol abuse. Dismissal from the Summer School is at the discretion of the organizers, including academic organizers and the managing coordinator.

What are the governing laws and jurisdiction for the Summer School?
The laws of the Federal Republic of Germany govern the program, and the courts of ordinary jurisdiction in Giessen have jurisdiction over disputes arising from the program.

How will my personal data be handled?
The Justus-Liebig-University processes personal data for the application process and implementation of the Summer School, in compliance with the EU-GDPR. Your data may be passed to external administrative institutions and will be stored for five years.
